Glaucoma Test and Eye Care

We urge you to discuss the value of a glaucoma check with your health care professional.

Glaucoma is the second most common cause of legal blindness in the United States and the leading cause for African-Americans. Some 80,000 Americans have been left legally blind from glaucoma.

Over one million people in the United States alone are at risk today, and many do not even know it. Although there is no cure for glaucoma, vision loss can be prevented if it is diagnosed through early detection.

Who should be tested?

Everyone over the age of 50–over the age of 40 if you are an African-American.

Anyone who has a close relative who has been diagnosed with glaucoma.

Anyone who has been taking steroid medication for a long period of time.

Anyone with diabetes. Diabetes is the leading cause of new cases of blindness for persons ages 20-74. If you have diabetes, you are at a higher risk for eye problems, including blindness, and may need treatment even if your vision is normal. To prevent vision loss, people with diabetes should have a dilated eye exam with an eye care professional on a regular basis to find out if diabetes is affecting the eyes.

Protect your vision. Get regular eye exams because there’s so much to see. Early detection of eye problems such as glaucoma, cataract, and optic nerve disease, among others common to older adults can make the difference between good vision and blindness in one's later years.

Another pro-active approach you may want to consider is Ocuplex, our all natural eye care formula with Patented Antioxidant Nutrients for Healthy Eyes and Vision including 7.5mg of FloraGLO® Lutein.
Ocuplex is an all-natural eye care formula designed to help maintain healthy vision and eyes through the action of various antioxidant nutrients, provided in a softgel for superior bioavailability and stability. Unlike other formulas, Ocuplex contains just the right amounts of nutrients in the right combination so that it effectively targets eye health.

5 out of 6 eye doctors recommend lutein to their patients. We use only FloraGLO® Lutein which is as important to eyes as calcium is to bones and only FloraGLO® Lutein is GRAS (Generally Recognized As Safe).

Epidemiological studies indicate that diets rich in antioxidants such as those contained in EyePlex (Vitamins C and E, Selenium as well as Beta-Carotene and other Carotenoids including Lutein and Zeaxanthin), are associated with a decreased incidence of age-related macular degeneration and also cataracts. DHA (docosahexaenoic acid), an essential omega-3 fatty acid, is also absolutely critical for the health of the retina. Macular degeneration is an eye condition in which there is gradual deterioration of a portion of the eye’s retina called the macula (the area of finest visual perception where the lens of the eye focuses an image). Macular degeneration has become a major health care issue, as it is the second most common cause of visual impairment in those over 65.
