CoQ10 Insufficiency and Renal Failure

Posted by James on 04/30/2017 | Comment

In studying 21 patients with chronic renal failure who were on or off dialysis (serum creatinine levels of 5 mg/dl or above), 11 were assigned to an intervention group that received coenzyme Q10 at 60mg, 3 times daily, compared with 10 subjects who received a placebo (cellulose) at 1 g, 3 times daily. There was a significant reduction in serum creatinine and blood urea and a significant increase in creatinine clearance and urine output in the coenzyme Q10 group versus the placebo group after the 4-week trial. After 4 weeks, the subjects on dialysis were significantly fewer in the coenzyme Q10 group (36.2%) than in the placebo group (90.0%). There was a significant increase in plasma levels of vitamins A, E, C and beta-carotene, whereas thiobarbituric acid reactive substances, diene conjugates and malondialdehyde showed a significant reduction in the coenzyme Q10 group compared with the control group. Q-Gel®, which is a hydrosoluble coenzyme Q10, was used as the coenzyme Q10 substance in this study.

Customer Comment:

Here is a word-for-word comment from one of our customers:

“My mother was end stage renal failure and has improved dramatically since starting 60 mg coQ 10, 3 x daily. All I was looking for was a good quality of life, so I'm excited at how well she has responded. If you are interested I'll fax her lab results. Her BUN and creatinine were 93 and 5.0 on Dec 27, 2002. By the middle of January her BUN and creatinine were at 52 and 2.8 using a renal diet and coQ 10 only. The kidney specialist discharged her from the hospital with a “poor prognosis” and in “guarded condition” WOW

Before using these comments, we asked for permission and received the following reply:

“I would not object at all if you use my comments they are certainly true. I feel so blessed I came across your product. I started my search only after learning that my mother was in kidney failure with no pior warning. It seems the contrast dye from a medical procedure in November damaged her kidneys. Being in the medical field I immediately searched the internet regarding her condition. That is how I came across your product. I ordered the Q gel Ultra the day she came home from the hospital. Although my husband and I have been using co Q10 for several years, the article I read convinced me I should use the product with higher bioavailability for my mother. After her response we are all going to be using the Q gel Ultra. Thank you so much,” (Name)

NOTE: This is just one persons experience and it does not mean that you would have the same results. But the really good thing about using Q-Gel CoQ10 is that since it is hydrosoluble with a 100% dissolution rate, you will know literally within three or four weeks if Q-Gel CoQ10 is going to help you. Is it worth a try? We certainly think so.

A recent question came from a customer whose husband is going into dialysis soon and was told that he would have to reduce dramatically his intake of sodium, potassium and phosphorous. Her concern was if any of the components of our Q-Gel CoQ10 would raise these levels. Here is the answer to this question from our senior scientist:

“There is evidence to show that renal patients are under oxidative stress and their CoQ10 status is impaired. Supplemental CoQ10 has been found to be beneficial in renal patients. There is no evidence that Q-Gel CoQ10 will affect sodium, potassium or phosphorous levels.”
