Can ResVida Resveratrol Help You Lose Weight?

A recent 2011 study from the Netherlands entitled: “Calorie Restriction-like Effects of 30 Days of Resveratrol Supplementation on Energy Metabolism and Metabolic Profile in Obese Humans” attempted to shed some light on that very question.

As already known and demonstrated, Resveratrol is a natural compound that affects energy metabolism and mitochondrial function and serves as a calorie restriction mimetic, at least in animal models of obesity.

This new 2011 study from the Netherlands was a randomized double-blind crossover study that treated 11 healthy, obese men with placebo for 30 days and 150mg/day resveratrol (resVida) for 30 days with a 4-week washout period between the 30-day study periods. The authors of the study came to the following conclusions:

Conclusion 1: The study demonstrated that 30 days of resveratrol supplementation induces metabolic changes in obese humans, mimicking the effects of calorie restriction.

Conclusion 2: The study demonstrated that 30 days of resveratrol supplementation reduced sleeping metabolic rate in human, mimicking calorie restriction

Conclusion 3: The study demonstrated that 30 days of resveratrol supplementation improved mitochondrial metabolism through the AMPK-SIRT1-PGC-1 axis.

Conclusion 4: The study demonstrated that 30 days of resveratrol supplementation decreased hepatic and increased muscle lipid content

Conclusion 5: The study demonstrated that 30 days of resveratrol supplementation reduced inflammation markers in plasma and muscle
